If you, like me, are one of the 1.2 million Americans that have hammertoe, bunion or other foot and toe surgeries each year, I wrote this book for you.
My hammertoe surgeries provided me with many insights on the post-op rehabilitation process. One of the most apparent lessons I learned was how profoundly my injured foot was affecting the rest of my body.
Limping before surgery caused my low back to ache. Lying down with my foot elevated for extended periods made my shoulders and neck tight. Overall, I felt off-kilter. And, even though my foot was healing, my muscles remained tight as I started to reintroduce activity to my life.
I knew I could apply what I know as a somatic yoga therapist, so I treated myself the way I would a client.
In that process, I created five basic principles to guide whole-body healing during foot rehab and beyond. The information you’ll discover in this book includes those principles as well as gentle, at-home physical movements to help you feel more connected to your body and more empowered in your healing.
